Back when DTM - the German touring car championship, for those of you who can't remember cassettes or floppy disks - was once one of the most exciting car racing competitions in the world, there was the BMW E30 M3, a car we can't seem to get enough of, but who can blame us?Here, in an über cool Tic Tac livery creating perhaps the freshest M3 in racing history?

Forty-something years ago a legend was born. The 3.5 inline-six M1 was the first car to be entirely developed by BMW's M division and was designed from scratch for a life on the track. You can think of it as the great-grandfather of all M BMWs, a dynasty that has since done so much to help shape and push forward the sports car segment while amassing a global legion of devote followers.Originally planned to be a collaboration between BMW and Lamborghini, the M1 was launched in 1978 with only about 450 units of the mid-engined hand-built bavarian unicorn ever being produced. And, with a top speed of 260 km/h, it was "Germany's fastest sports car" and therefore crowned Kaiser of the Autobahns. But BMW's plan went far beyond just creating an amazingly good sports car that also looked the part. In 1979 the BMW Procar Series came along, a one-make racing championship starring a beefed-up 310 km/h version of the M1 and, in spite of its 2-season only short lifespan, went down in history as a spectacular star-incrusted motorsport event, with a parade of F1 drivers joining in on the fun - Andretti, Fittipaldi, Hunt, Lauda, Piquet and Prost just to name a few. Â Spoiled for choice, we went with the BASF livery - does the word cassette ring any bells? - in part because of its unique and remarkable design, but mostly because it made the biggest exhaust flames of the lot. Launched in 2009, the S1000RR, like so many of BMW's endeavors, went straight to the top of the two-wheel food chain, the epitome of design, technology and sheer performance.It holds the record for fastest Isle of Man lap - although we guess Michael Dunlop probably deserves some recognition as well. That achievement alone is reason enough for our unconditional love. I mean being the fastest at the Tourist Trophy really puts the super in superbike. Custom made for the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team as official team wear, these socks are widely believed to shave a few tenths in every lap time.

The E9 invented two of the things that petrolheads most love about BMWs, the M division and the no-compromise-track-focused CSL badge.Couple that with Jager's iconic and irreverent racing livery and we can't help but be inspired to pay tribute to the charismatic 3.0 CSL, the Bavarian "Batmobile".

FINA and BMW were one of the great partnerships in motorsport in the late '80s and 90s, with some very iconic liveries as an added bonus. On the BMW E36, in 318/320is guise for the BTCC and M3 GTR guise for the German ADAC, driven by Johnny Cecotto and Joachim Winkelhock it became one of the dominant forces of the European Touring scene in the early '90s, and was definitely one of the most memorable BMW liveries of all time.

The first BMW M3... we could just stop here but the E30 was also the best looking '80s sedan with the coolest stance and an unforgettable DTM paint job that made our life very very easy... can you tell it's one of our favorites?
